Honda said the Insight, which will undercut the price of the Toyota Prius, will go on sale in the US next spring. The new Honda Insight is expected to be priced from under $20000 and is the first vehicle in Honda’s ambitious hybrid strategy. In comparison, the 2009 Toyota Prius starts at $22660, including a $660 destination charge. Honda plans to roll out four new gas-electric models over the next four years as part of a broad global strategy to boost hybrid sales to 500000 units by 2012 — which would represent more than 10 percent of its total worldwide annual automobile sales. “Following the launch of the new Insight, Honda also plans to introduce another unique sporty hybrid vehicle based on the CR-Z, first shown at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show,” the automaker said in a statement. Also in the pipeline is a replacement for the current Civic Hybrid, which is due out in late 2010, and a new hybrid edition of the Honda Fit in 2012. Electric cars and hybrid electric cars offer the lowest emissions available, with hybrid vehicles being the most practical. If emissions performance are an important environmental consideration, reconsider one of the Hybrid Cars. Electric- powered cars have many negatives and hydrogen- powered cars will take some time to hit our markets and so the best option we have today, to play a part in controlling greenhouse gas emissions, is to choose a hybrid car over other cars in future.

Electric and hybrid cars are becoming more popular given the cost of a tank of gas. Work by nanotech companies such as Altair Nanotechnologies and A123Systems to improve the performance of lithium ion batteries may make electric cars even more appealing.

Currently nearly ever major manufacturer in the world has serious plans to release new lines of hybrid cars. Whilst not all of them are betting their future on hybrid technology, most realise that in these days of increased fuel prices and better environmental knowledge consumers are looking for alternatives to gas-guzzling petrol vehicles.

The Toyota Prius is such an iconic car that many people believe Toyota was the first company to come out with production hybrids. It was not. Honda was the first, but miscalculated the market and missed out on a huge opportunity. The announcement that the company will be introducing a Hybrid Sports Car, the CR-Z, to the US market in the fall of 2010 is an effort to right that wrong.

The CR-Z is nothing less than a full frontal assault on the hybrid market in the United States. The car is a two-seater that is rumored to incorporate an integrated motor assist system that incorporates a 1.3 liter engine. The CR-Z, which stands for Compact Renaissance Zero, gets its sportiness from both the design and the fact that it is expected to be very light weight.

The initial prototype of the vehicle was shown at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show. It incorporates a longer nose with sleek, banked styling that runs to a higher end, flat rear. If I had to compare it to any other car, it looks like a revved up Honda Insight although with very distinct lines. You can look up images online from the show to see it.

The real beauty of the CR-Z is found in an area that is rarely available in a new, revolutionary sporty car. Yes, I am talking about the price. All indications are Honda is trying to bring this car in to wipe up the market. The proposed retail price is a paltry $20,000. This is the equivalent of a Prius, but with much better lines and performance. Well, at least we think better performance. Honda has released no information on just how sporty the performance will be. Still, one has to imagine it will be better than your average hybrid.

The age of hybrids is in full bloom. The Honda CR-Z seems to fill a niche that has demand these days. With a price in the $20,000 range, it may be a huge hit.

Green was the theme at the LA Auto Show as car manufacturers revealed a whole new line of hybrid, electric, and fuel efficient new cars… but none of them were as stylish as Hondas’s FC Sport Concept Car. The futuristic sports car is a hydrogen powered, zero emission fuel cell supercar. The three seater is lightweight with a low center of gravity and features a powerful electric motor that helps it deliver supercar performance. The eye catching, futuristic design of the car is meant to excite fans of sports cars, not just eco friendly motorists, and its a glimpse at what car design might look like in a post gas engine world. Honda’s FC Sport is only a concept car, and there are currently no plans to enter this zero emission design study model into actual production anytime soon. But the fact that Honda could imagine such a fast, sexy, and green zero emissions hydrogen vehicle means it shouldn’t be long before all the major car companies start building similar vehicles.
