While major U.S. automakers are focusing on hybrid and fuel cell vehicles, Volvo took a different route, unveiling a sports car powered entirely with lithium ion batteries. Volvo is 3CC concept car won Best Design and five Gold Standards at the recent Michelin Challenge Bibendum environmental competition in Shanghai, China.
Not only does the 3CC combine classic Volvo styling cues with exotic gull wing doors and a tapered, 2+1 seating configuration, but it does so with a highly advanced lithium ion battery electric drive train. That is a step apart from the crowd, which these days is largely focused on hybrid and fuel cell concepts, says Ron Cognac, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal.
Just as the earlier ECC forwarded new thought in hybrid propulsion with its high speed turbine generator design, adds Cognac, today is lithium ion 3CC innovates with its thousands of smallish laptop computer style batteries, which power this zero emission vehicle to impressive levels of efficiency and performance.
Advanced research into sustainable mobility and Volvo engineers have placed particular focus on the conditions regulating safety in small cars and their ability to handle incoming forces in a frontal collision.
The unique aerodynamic styling of Volvo’s 3CC concept car allows room for a third seats in back. The unique ductile design creates room for a third seat in the back, while the batteries are sandwiched into the floor panels.
The 3CC concept car features an 80 kilowatt motor that delivers up to 107 horsepower, it has a potential driving range of 300 km the 3CC has a top speed of over 135 km per hour.
The carbon fiber body is mounted on a steel space frame and composite floor panels, giving the lightweight vehicle the ability to leap to 60 miles per hour in less than 10 seconds. Volvo says the 3CC can travel 180 miles on one charge under ideal driving conditions
The Volvo 3 Cc is safety features include Volvo Safety Ride Down Concept, a unique solution with a seat system that moves forward, a bit like a sled, at the same time as the front is deformed. This movement is slowed with the help of adaptive shock absorbers that tailor the damping effect to suit the collision force and the occupants’ number and weight. The interior can be moved between 0 and 200 mm forward, which has the same overall effect as extending the crumple zone by a corresponding length. It has seats that slide forward at the moment of deformation, the intention being to compensate for the small car’s traditional lack of space in the crumple zone.
Virtual tests showed that the most important part of a ride down system is the energy absorber and that it needs to be adaptive in order to be a viable concept, by responding to differences in occupant load and crash severity.
An environmentally efficient car that also has to be comfortable, enjoyable to drive, attractive to look at and safe to ride is an entirely new approach. The result is the Volvo 3CC, a sporty and appealing, extremely aerodynamic and compact car equipped with an energy efficient electric motor.

it call a hybrid car or a gasoline-Electric Hybrid Car, it is all the same. The fuel is gasoline and the motor is run by electricity. Since it is a combination of both the energies derived by gas and electricity it is named as hybrid cars.
Being hybrid: The reason behind
Clubbing the two technologies has in fact brought about a revolution in the energy world. In terms of fuel management the efficiency of a hybrid car is optimum. Even without using conventional fuels like petrol or diesel the mileage provided by the gasoline is great. Coverage of 300 miles before refueling is the basic criteria of the fuel gasoline. But why is the acceleration process initiated by an electric motor?
The reason is simple. In spite of high efficiency of gasoline, this particular fuel spreads pollution and is also expensive. Allowing the operation to be conducted via an electric motor run by batteries that can be recharged, the efficiency level has increased. Moreover pollution has been controlled. And above all the whole innovative enterprise has lowered the cost of the fuel and hybrid cars are now considered to be the most economic cars across the globe.
Engine efficiency: Simply great
Primarily the hybrid car engine is run by a gasoline engine. What a size it is! So sleek and so smart; you will not have to bother about excess fuel consumption. On the other hand there is actually no scope for fuel loss in hybrid cars. How is it possible?
The hybrid car has been devised so that the engine is automatically put off when the car is not on the run. This is highly beneficial for any vehicle when it is bound to come to a halt in a red signal. Most of you don’t put off the engines or some of you do so. But if you are driving a hybrid care, it is none of your concern to turn off the engine. Things will automatically come to rest and the fuel will be thus saved.
Driving satisfaction anywhere
The hybrid car is not so heavy and has wonderful brakes. The braking system is connected with the electric motor. As the electric motor is regenerative in nature whenever the car seems to lose its speed, the electric motor initiates the regeneration of power. The car thus always remains on a smooth speed throughout the run. For its light weight and narrow tires it can take stiff turns in every lane at ease. So driving becomes a pleasant experience wherever you are on the ride.
Better buy a hybrid car for the sake of economic riding and pollution-free environment. Think over it.

If you are a type of person who likes exotic high speed sports car, then you should prepare to spend a lot of money on gasoline. Sports cars are known to have large engines to achieve high amounts of speed. Having large engines mean that it will also consume large amounts of fuel.
For the typical person, this kind of car is definitely not something that they should drive everyday, especially because of the rising prices of gasoline. However, why do people still drool and save money to buy these expensive sports car. Maybe it is because of the high speed capability that they can take advantage of whenever they feel the need for speed, or maybe because it is because of the sleek and stylish look of these vehicles.
Hybrid technology is now being used to produce fuel efficient cars. These cars are designed to be lightweight, and aerodynamic with small engines to maximize fuel efficiency. However, hybrid cars are relatively slow because of the small engine. Hybrid cars existing today are designed for city or local driving where you do not need to go on high speeds. You have to consider that these cars are designed to be fuel efficient.
However, car manufacturers today are now opening up a new line of hybrid cars. Some already built a prototype or a concept car to be shown to the public. These hybrid cars are designed to achieve high amounts of speed but at the same time, take advantage of the hybrid technology to save fuel.
High speed Hybrid Sports Cars are being designed by car manufacturers today to satisfy consumers who like to go at high speeds and at the same time, save fuel. The gasoline-electric engine concept is so popular today that manufacturers, such as Toyota and Honda are now opening a new line in their factory that produces hybrid sports cars.
Major auto shows have shown different hybrid sports car concepts from different large car manufacturers. One is the high performance hybrid sports car from Mitsubishi called the Mitsubishi Eclipse Concept-E. This hybrid concept sports car is a very good example of what sports cars will look like in the near future.
Mitsubishi Eclipse Concept-E takes advantage of the hybrid technology. The front wheels are driven by the parallel hybrid system. This means that the electric motor is integrated with the gasoline engine, which is a 3.8 liter V6. With the gasoline engine and the electric motor, it is able to have a power output of 270 horsepower.
The new generation of sports car like the Mitsubishi Eclipse Concept-E is only one of the concept hybrid sports cars that are now being talked about by sports car fanatics. With the hybrid technology integrated into sports cars, you will definitely save a lot of money on fuel while letting you combine fuel efficiency and power all in one package.
Hybrid sports car is definitely the sports car of the future. It is now possible to have a sports car that is able to save fuel and still give you maximum performance. With hybrid sports car, you can now own a luxury sports car that is able to cut fuel consumption. You can satisfy your speed urges without sacrificing big money for fuel.
